Mineral of the Month 2022

These pretty magnetite crystals sit as if scattered in their parent rock. The name of the mineral already reveals its special property, because this mineral is magnetic. When magnetite forms in a rock, for example in cooling lava, its magnetisation aligns with the earth’s magnetic field.

The mineral of the month November is ferberite. If you look at the mineral formula, you can see that ferberite belongs to the wolframite group.

October’s mineral of the month is vanadinite. Fall is here and the paths are covered in beautiful red leaves.

September´s mineral of the month is a pale blue aquamarine. Isn’t that a beautiful color? The translation of the name hits it quite well – “sea water”. The beautiful mineral specimen on our picture is intergrown with the mineral muscovite.

The mineral of the month August is fluorite, which can occur as beautiful transparent cubes in manifold colors.

The mineral of the month July is pentlandite. Mostly pentlandite looks rather unspectacular, because it does not develop beautiful crystal forms – however, it is of special interest as an ore mineral.

The mineral of the month June is coelestine, which belongs to the group of sulphates.

The mineral of the month May is azurite, which is named after its characteristic blue colour.

April’s mineral of the month is malachite. which is characterized by its characteristic green color.

The mineral of the month March is pyrite which belongs to the group of sulfides
