April 2022 – Malachite

April’s mineral of the month is malachite. which is characterized by its characteristic green color. Usually it does not form beautiful crystal forms, but grows in many fine layers. If you grind such a banded malachite, its structures come into their own. Appropriately for Easter, you can see these egg-shaped malachite in the Museum Mineralogia.
