September 2022 – Aquamarine
September´s mineral of the month is a pale blue aquamarine. Isn’t that a beautiful color? The translation of the name hits it quite well – “sea water”. The beautiful mineral specimen on our picture is intergrown with the mineral muscovite. Geologically, aquamarine often occurs in so-called pegmatites and is often intergrown with muscovite in these rocks. Pegmatites are magmatic rocks in which especially large minerals can be formed. Because aquamarine is relatively hard, it is often processed to gemstones – and of course because of its beautiful appearance!
